This story and this page are NOT about me, but how God used me. How He brought me to it, put me in it, and wanted me to continue it.
This story started for me, because I am the “cancer girl”. You know how you have your” hair girl,” “your nail girl” ? Well I am your cancer girl. I know all things cancer. I am a Medical Technologist who happened to run an amazing practice, with an amazing doctor and nurse. I loved learning about cancer, treating cancer, but mainly I love my patients.
Just so happened that there was a prevalence of metastatic cancer running rampid in our community. I was asked to join a prayer group for one of these ladies. Now that group IS a STRONG TRIBE of women. Their bond intrigued me. So, I went. It was marvelous. It was refreshing, and the Lord used me to reassure this lady in her cancer journey. And He gave me the gift of being a “good prayer” as my Aunt Lois said.
We would sit around in a circle and ask for prayer requests as well as praying for this friend.
One day one of the friends, could barely stop crying enough to simply say “an uspoken request”
So we all left it at that.
About a month later, this other friend, Catherine Bensman, was diagnosed with Stage 4 ALK Mutation Lung Cancer.
Now this is where God does His thing. I didn’t “know” Catherine, but God always connects me in some way. He always uses relationships and people to do whatever he needs me to do. I just go, or at least try.
Catherine was married to my grandma’s neighbor boy, Brian. See a simple connection!
Catherine was a very private, very strong, very competitive and very sarcastic( with the most hilarious intentions) gotta love sarcasm, especially with cancer!
Fast forward to August 8, 2017. Catherine started a blog, it was the best! She was real and vulnerable with a healthy dose of sarcasm. That day was a struggle for her mentally. So she decided to just post the thread of texts she was getting to cheer her up. She called it “Text Therapy/Summary” Someone asked if they could get her anything. “Beer, wine, Chocolate, Listen, Praying for you always”
She said “ you could get me a shirt to wear that says “ I may look great, but I don’t feel great. Thanks for the compliment though”
I told her I loved that idea. She responded with “I get a little more snarky as we trek through the weeds. LOL” and she thanked me for the prayers.
I was in “fix it mode” I wanted to make her a t-shirt that said that...with her cancer slogan #webelieve on it. You know when you get cancer, you get a slogan and make a tshirt, right?!!!
I connected with another connection that happened to be her best friend, I asked her about the t-shirt saying Catherine REALLY wanted to say and if it would be a good idea to do that. By all means her BFF said “NO” she would be mortified. So I got to thinking with some help from her tribe!!
Catherine had just gotten a tattoo. There’s a blog about that too. Long story short BUCKET LIST THINGS, and my dad will kill me!
We decided on her tattoo that was her writing of LIVE and her cancer slogan #webelieve.
The story goes, I dropped off her tshirt as a gift, there’s a blog about that too. She loved it, her community supported her by wearing the t-shirt to our county fair. She was overwhelmed with love and joy!
So to carry on the LOVE and JOY of Catherine Bensman, I asked her husband, if we could create a little brand called LIVE #webeleive. He said “do whatever you need to do Wendy”
So here you go...the launch of “LIVE-webelieve” brand.
Waymore things to come down the pike, but for now T-shirts. Moving as the Holy Spirit is leading me to do this. The profits from the shirts will go to Catherine’s Scholarship at Miami East High School, where she graduated from.
I hope you enjoy the “soft fuzzy feeling t-shrits” and start to do your bucket list things and LIVE! Because tomorrow is never promised, but our hope and faith in Jesus Christ will give us forever in heaven, with Catherine!!!!
